The Anlo Queens Association were urged not to abandon their roles and responsibilities in the maintenance of culture, child protection and the development of their communities.
Madam Emmanuella Woelikplim Afetorgbor, the gender desk officer of the National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE), Anloga District made this appeal when she addressed the members of the Anlo queens Association at a two-days capacity-building workshop at the Beverly View Plus Hotel, Tegbi on the theme Empowered As One. The workshop which was intended to build capacity for queens as leaders was attended by about seventy (70) participants. The workshop aimed among other things to equip the participants to know who they are, their roles, responsibilities and as agents of peace, love and development in their respective communities.
Madam Afetorgbor charged the queens to use their wisdom and knowledge as mothers to ensure there is peace, unity and development in the Anlo land. She further asked them to acquaint themselves with the sustainable development goals and work towards achieving them. She appealed to them to work consciously to enhance the cause of boys, girls, women, people with disabilities and other marginalized in their society and act as a voice to them.
A queen must be bold, fair and firm when mediating between parties. Madam Afetorgbor encouraged the participants to advocate for climate change issues and encourage community members to plant trees since climate change has come to stay.
She stressed that all participants should come together to fight against Gender-based Violence, teenage pregnancy, child labour, child trafficking, child marriage and domestic violence.
The president of the Anlo Queens Association, Mama Wotorbe II of Avuto encouraged participants to desire to learn more to enhance their governance roles.
Mama Amegbe II of Anyanui expressed her excitement over the success of the program and emphasized the need for queens to continuously build their leadership capacity to effectively address contemporary challenges facing their communities. She encouraged them also to uphold the dignity of their offices and closely work with their chiefs and other traditional authorities to foster peace and sustainable development.
