The late Apostle Emeritus Professor Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has been described as a rare national treasure whose legacy of innovation, philanthropy and spiritual leadership will forever remain etched in Ghana’s history.
This was the tribute paid by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah when he received a delegation from the Safo family at the Presidency to formally brief government on preparations for the final funeral rites of the revered founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Speaking on behalf of government, Mr. Debrah portrayed Apostle Safo as a man whose life mission centered on improving the lives of others, noting that his contributions extended far beyond religion into industry, technology, agriculture and community development.
According to him, the late inventor possessed an uncommon passion for humanity and consistently dedicated his resources, intellect and influence to creating opportunities for ordinary people.
“Apostle Safo lived a life of sacrifice. He devoted himself to building a future where people could live with dignity, hope and purpose,” the Chief of Staff stated.
He described the renowned industrialist as a visionary whose relentless pursuit of innovation helped place Ghana on the global map of indigenous technological advancement.
Recalling personal encounters with the late statesman, Mr. Debrah spoke warmly about the community spirit Apostle Safo fostered at Taifa, where residents and visitors frequently gathered for evenings of music, fellowship and entertainment.
He also recounted how the late entrepreneur readily came to the aid of others whenever assistance was needed, citing instances where transportation services owned by Apostle Safo were made available without hesitation.
The Chief of Staff said such acts reflected a deeper commitment to service that defined every aspect of Apostle Safo’s life.
“He carried the burdens of many and devoted himself to making life better for others,” Mr. Debrah remarked.
Given the enormous influence of the Kristo Asafo leader, the Chief of Staff said it was only fitting that the nation accord him a funeral worthy of his remarkable achievements and contributions.
He assured the family that government would work closely with them to ensure a befitting farewell for a man whose legacy continues to inspire innovation, entrepreneurship and national pride.
Leading the delegation, former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo explained that extensive consultations had been undertaken since the passing of Apostle Safo on September 11, 2025.
She noted that the family engaged traditional authorities, church leaders, relatives and key stakeholders to ensure that arrangements reflected the stature of the celebrated inventor and spiritual leader.
According to her, guidance from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II played a crucial role in helping the family settle on the final funeral programme.
She announced that the traditional burial rites, known as "Doteyie," will take place on July 30, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota, where a grand mausoleum has been built to serve as Apostle Safo’s final resting place.
The main funeral service is scheduled for July 31, 2026, at Independence Square and is expected to draw thousands of mourners, including political leaders, diplomats, traditional rulers and admirers from across the world.
The national farewell will conclude with a thanksgiving service in Kumasi on August 8, 2026.
As preparations gather momentum, many Ghanaians are expected to join in celebrating the life of a man whose groundbreaking innovations, entrepreneurial achievements and unwavering faith transformed lives and helped shape modern Ghana’s industrial and technological landscape.
