Bawku West District — The District Chief Executive for Bawku West, Hon. James Ayamwego, has urged Ghanaian Muslims—particularly the youth in the Zebilla Constituency—to avoid negative behaviours and uphold the true teachings of Islam.
Speaking at this year’s Eid‑ul‑Adha celebrations at the Zebilla Primary School Park, he noted that unlawful and socially unacceptable acts are often wrongly associated with some Muslim youth during festive periods, tarnishing the image of the religion.
“Remain disciplined, peaceful, and law‑abiding at all times,” he advised.
Hon. Ayamwego encouraged Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on sacrifice, obedience, humility, and peaceful coexistence, which he described as core values of Islam. He also cautioned motorcyclists and other young people to strictly observe road safety rules to prevent avoidable accidents.
Marking one year in office, the DCE thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting development, peace, and unity in the district.
He further urged the youth to take responsibility for sanitation in Zebilla, stressing the need to reduce littering of polythene bags, plastic containers, and other waste. He also warned against the use of hard drugs and substances that endanger lives.
In a historic gesture, the DCE presented two rams to Zebilla town and the communities of Binaba, Kusanaba, and Zongoiri to support their Eid‑ul‑Adha festivities, calling for unity across the district.
District Chief Imam Alhaji Mallam Issah Tahiru Seidu expressed gratitude to the DCE and the Member of Parliament for their support. Delivering his sermon, he urged the youth to use Islam as a tool for development, not destruction, emphasizing that the religion stands for peace and unity.
NPP Constituency Executives, led by Hon. Patrick Ayaaba, commended the Muslim community for consistently championing peace. He added that the NPP remains committed to improving the lives of the vulnerable when it returns to power.
He also praised the NDC for responding to community concerns by relocating the 24‑Hour Economy Market from the central market to Bazunde, about 2km from Zebilla town.
