I have led this Party to victory before — John Boadu on why he deserves NPP National Chairman

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has stated that his experience and track record make him the right choice to be the party's next National Chairman.

Mr. Boadu, who has served the party in various capacities over the years, said he has led the party to victory in past elections under his leadership.

Speaking during a meeting with the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament in Accra on Wednesday, May 20, where he formally informed the MPs of his decision to enter the race once nominations open, he outlined what he described as a practical roadmap for rebuilding the party's parliamentary strength.

According to him, the party must urgently consolidate its current seats while aggressively targeting constituencies it lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“At this critical moment, we must be deliberate and focused on securing the 87 parliamentary seats we currently hold and ensure that none of them slips into the hands of our opponents,” he said.

He further stressed that reclaiming lost seats would require structured planning, strong candidate selection, and disciplined internal organisation.

Mr. Boadu argued that such a task demands experienced leadership with deep knowledge of constituency-level dynamics.

"The NPP needs a Chairman with a proven track record of delivering victory. I have led this Party to electoral success before, and my record remains clear and undeniable,” he stated.

As part of his proposal, he disclosed plans to push for the creation of an ad-hoc committee to strengthen the party’s parliamentary performance, which would eventually become a permanent structure.

He explained that the proposed body would focus on continuous constituency research, candidate profiling, and post-primary support for parliamentary candidates.

Mr. Boadu also said the committee would help mobilise resources for candidates after primaries.

He emphasised that unity remains central to the party’s electoral fortunes, warning against internal divisions as the NPP prepares for future contests.

“The NPP cannot afford divisions and internal fragmentation at this crucial stage of its political journey,” he noted.
