Mac Bancy Gallery has presented a giant portrait to the Chief Executive Officer of the Special Group of Companies, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, in celebration of his 60th birthday.

The remarkable artwork, crafted entirely from unused broken bottles, is being described by the artists as the first of its kind in Africa to be gifted to a corporate leader.

The presentation formed part of activities marking Dr. Ofori Sarpong’s milestone birthday, which has seen a stream of business partners, associates, and well-wishers throng his office with gifts and goodwill messages in honour of his impact in Ghana’s business landscape. Known for his influence in the private sector, the celebrated entrepreneur continues to attract admiration from both industry players and the general public.

According to the lead artist, the portrait symbolizes resilience and transformation, reflecting Dr. Ofori Sarpong’s life journey. He noted that the piece was carefully assembled by piecing together padded fragments of broken bottles, representing the struggles and triumphs that shape success. The artist explained that, much like the fragmented materials used, life often presents challenges, but perseverance can transform those difficulties into something beautiful and inspiring. He added that the portrait serves as a reminder of the many people Dr. Sarpong continues to inspire across Ghana and beyond.

Receiving the artwork, Dr. Ofori Sarpong expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mac Bancy Gallery for the thoughtful gesture. He said he felt highly honoured by the presentation and commended the creativity behind the use of recycled materials. The business magnate emphasized the importance of transforming waste into valuable products, noting that such innovation is key to sustainable development.

Beyond his business success, Dr. Ofori Sarpong is widely recognized for his philanthropic contributions to society. Over the years, he has supported educational initiatives. Recently he constructed a 600-bed dormitory facility at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, to improve student accommodation to mark his 60th birthday. He has also extended support to youth development and community-based projects, reinforcing his commitment to giving back to society.

He thanked the artists for their effort and prayed for blessings upon them, describing the portrait as both beautiful and meaningful.
