The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that it will conduct a major internal security and counter-insurgency training exercise in parts of the Bono and Upper East regions from May 10 to May 20.

The military exercise, dubbed Exercise Storm Shield 2026, will involve the Ghana Army in collaboration with the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, the exercise is intended to strengthen the operational preparedness of troops in responding to emerging security threats across the country.

“The exercise codenamed EXERCISE STORM SHIELD 2026, is an Internal Security/Counter-Insurgency Field Training Exercise aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and rapid-response capability of troops to address contemporary security threats,” portions of the statement dated May 8, read.

The Armed Forces noted that residents in the affected regions may witness increased military movement and activities throughout the exercise period.

“Residents in the two Regions may observe increased military activities during the period. The public is advised not to panic but to go about their normal duties,” the statement noted.

The military further assured the public of its commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace and security.
