North Legon: Police arrest man for allegedly dragging son on tarred road with quad bike

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 60-year-old man at North Legon in the Greater Accra Region for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old son.

The victim is said to have been tied to a quad motorbike and dragged on a tarred road, resulting in multiple injuries.

According to a police statement dated May 6 and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the incident occurred after the teenager went out to play football with friends.

Police identified the suspect as Eric Mante, the biological father of the victim.

“The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son at North Legon,” portions of the statement read.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the suspect allegedly confronted the victim on May 3, 2026, before tying him to a quad motorbike and speeding off.

“Police investigations revealed that the suspect, who is the biological father of the victim and has three children with the victim's mother, allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off with him,” the statement noted.

The police said the victim reportedly fell onto the tarred road near the Adonai Church and was dragged along the road, sustaining various degrees of injuries.

His screams, according to the statement, attracted residents in the area who intervened and stopped the suspect from further assaulting him.

The victim was later rushed to the Legon Hospital for treatment while the suspect was arrested.

Police disclosed that during investigations, Eric Mante admitted to the act and claimed he acted out of anger over the boy’s behaviour.

He has since been charged and put before court.
