A suspect identified as Opoku Emmanuel has been arrested for allegedly threatening military and police personnel in a viral video.
The suspect was seen in the video allegedly warning security officers not to arrest armed robbers and threatening to kill any officer who confronted him.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 7, the Ghana Police Service said the suspect was arrested at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
According to the police, the arrest was carried out on Wednesday, by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in collaboration with officers at Jacobu.
“The IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in collaboration with the Police at Jacobu has arrested suspect Opoku Emmanuel for inciting violence and issuing threats in a viral video against Police and Military personnel,” portions of the statement read.
“In the said video, a masked man, later identified as suspect Opoku Emmanuel warned Police officers against attempting to arrest armed robbers and threatened to kill any officer who engaged him,” the statement added.
The statement further noted that the suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations and will be arraigned before court in the coming days.
