International businessman and boxing enthusiast Ellis Quaye has renewed his ambition to become part of the new leadership of professional boxing in Ghana ahead of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) elections scheduled for June 2, 2026.
Speaking in an exclusive telephone interview, Quaye said he believes the GBA has made significant progress and wants to contribute to taking the sport to a higher level.
“The GBA has come this far, and I want to be part of the group to take it to the next level, reaching greater heights with the knowledge I have acquired over the years in boxing from the UK until now,” he said.
Quaye stated that his international experience would help create opportunities for Ghanaian boxers to gain visibility and compete on global platforms.
He also pledged his full support to the next President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, promising to assist in achieving key goals and objectives for the development of the sport.
According to him, Ghana possesses enormous boxing talent, but talent alone is not enough to produce champions.
He said his aim is to help shape and develop fighters while attracting financial backing and other forms of support needed to unlock their full potential.
“We believe in teamwork and unity. We believe in creating opportunities for everyone. I assure our boxers, coaches and matchmakers that we are going to run an ultramodern and scientific system where we will have a database of all stakeholders and make sure we work with everyone,” Quaye added.
The managing partner of Cabic Promotions said his team understands both the expectations of boxing fans and industry stakeholders and is prepared to deliver results in a professional manner.
Quaye, who has spent more than 30 years in boxing administration and management, believes Ghana is ready to produce a new generation of champions.
He mentioned Theo Allotey, Daniel Gorsh, Joseph Commey, John Laryea and Emmanuel Quaye as some of the fighters capable of bringing glory to the nation with the right support.
He also commended the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the GBA for its work in preparing the roadmap toward the upcoming congress and elections.
“I love the medical and safety protocols that have been put in place, and I think they are going to serve us well,” he said.
Quaye further called on the media to give boxing the same level of attention as football, noting that the sport has produced many world champions for Ghana.
He also expressed sadness over the passing of Ernest Akushey, popularly known as Bahubali, who was a cheerleader for the IBC Team, and stressed the importance of safeguarding the welfare of boxers at all times.
