The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected gang leader and an accomplice in connection with a robbery attack that led to the death of Dominic Frimpong.

According to police sources, the arrests were made following a joint intelligence-led operation by specialised units tasked with tracking down those behind the deadly incident.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Ahmed, popularly known as “I Can Do,” and Bawa Gideon, were apprehended on April 15, 2026, at Atimatim in Kumasi.

The operation involved personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate, Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, as well as the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands.

Police said the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on officers but were overpowered and arrested.

The robbery attack occurred on April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.

Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a special intelligence team to pursue the perpetrators.

A search conducted after the arrests led to the retrieval of a pistol with ammunition, BB cartridges, pepper spray, mobile phones and other items believed to be linked to the robbery.

During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed reportedly admitted involvement in multiple robbery operations, including the attack on the Berekum Chelsea team and other incidents at Nkawie and Fufuso.

He also named three accomplices—Dauda, Huefe and A.T.—who remain at large.

Police say Mohammed Ahmed is currently receiving treatment under guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations.

The three other suspects have been declared wanted, and the police are appealing to the public for information to aid their arrest.

Authorities have assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend all members of the gang and that the suspects will soon be arraigned before court.

The Police Command also commended officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to members of the public whose cooperation contributed to the breakthrough.
