The victims of the fatal Sky Arrow microlight aircraft crash in Tema have been identified as Captain Frank Donkor, 36, and his younger brother Elijah Ofori Donkor, 25, both sons of Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor, founder of the Hebron Prayer Camp.
Captain Donkor, an experienced flight instructor with about 15 years in aviation, was piloting the aircraft when it went down near the TMA Day Care Centre at Oninku Park in Tema Community One on March 16, 2026. The aircraft had been travelling from Ho to Accra and narrowly missed school children in the area at the time of the crash.
The late pilot had recently celebrated his marriage, having held his wedding on December 13, 2025.
Their father, Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor, is a well-known Christian leader based in Doboro near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, widely recognised for his prayer, healing and deliverance ministry. News of the deaths has triggered deep sorrow across sections of the religious community.
In the hours following the tragedy, a video surfaced on social media showing Captain Donkor piloting a similar two seater aircraft. The footage, shared on TikTok by a user identified as El Wealth, captured him operating the plane with calm precision, reinforcing tributes from colleagues and friends who described him as highly skilled and composed.
Reports indicate that the aircraft, with registration number 9G ADV, crashed within the premises of the TMA Day Care Centre at Tema Community One, Site 18, killing both occupants.
A statement from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the aircraft lost contact while en route to Accra.
“The aircraft was flying from Ho to Accra, estimating Accra at 1520 Z. The last contact with the aircraft on radio was 1418 Z. There were two persons on board,” the statement said.
The Ghana National Fire Service said its rapid response prevented further casualties. According to the Service, personnel arrived at the crash scene just three minutes after receiving a distress call at 2:59 pm.
Head of Public Relations at the GNFS, DO II Desmond Ackah, explained that firefighters found the aircraft engulfed in flames upon arrival and quickly moved to contain the fire. Additional support was requested from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority Fire Station to assist in bringing the situation under control.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and retrieve the bodies trapped in the wreckage, while also securing the area to prevent interference.
Officials noted that some members of the public had initially rushed to the scene, but emergency responders had to take control to ensure safety and preserve critical evidence for investigations.
Authorities stressed that coordination between the GNFS, the Ghana Police Service and aviation regulators played a key role in managing the incident and safeguarding the crash site.
The Tema crash adds to growing concerns over aviation safety in Ghana, following another deadly incident in August 2025 when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed near Obuasi, killing all eight people on board, including senior government officials and military personnel.
The back-to-back tragedies have intensified calls for stricter aviation oversight, improved enforcement of safety standards, and enhanced emergency response systems.
