Ghana and Lebanon have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral security cooperation to tackle transnational crimes, including cyber fraud, drug trafficking, and money laundering.
This follows a high-level visit by the Ghana’s Consul General in Lebanon, Ali Samih Jaafar, and the Deputy Director of State Security in Lebanon, Morshed El Hajj Sleiman, to the Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Monday, in Accra.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr Mohammed-Mubarak described the visit as a key step towards consolidating Ghana-Lebanon relations, particularly in the area of security.
He stressed that collaboration between the two countries was not optional but necessary in addressing emerging and evolving security threats.
“Collaboration is not just useful, it is essential. We will do everything possible to foster cooperation that keeps our nations safe from these emerging threats,” he stated.
The Minister reiterated Ghana’s strong stance against drug trafficking, noting that numerous measures are already being implemented and that ongoing work aims to bolster defences against narcotics and related financial crimes.
The Brigadier General Sleiman reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to sustaining the partnership and proposed the establishment of a coordinated system between the security apparatuses of both countries to facilitate information sharing and joint operations.
He also assured that Ghanaians residing in Lebanon remain safe, underscoring Lebanon’s readiness to maintain close engagement with Ghanaian authorities.
