The Ministry of the Interior, working jointly with the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, has announced a temporary suspension of the Ghanaian citizenship application process for historical diasporans.
The decision, communicated in a statement issued on Sunday, February 1, forms part of a coordinated move to overhaul and improve the existing system. The two institutions explained that the pause is intended to allow for critical adjustments aimed at making the process more efficient, accessible and user friendly.
They noted that the suspension will create room for technical and administrative refinements to ensure a smoother and more seamless application experience when the process reopens.
Despite the temporary halt, the Ministry of the Interior and the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to welcoming members of the global African family back home.
The statement added that revised timelines and updated application guidelines will be announced through official channels in due course.
