Kwahu Paramount Queen Mother not abducted — Traditional Council

The Kwahu Traditional Council has dismissed reports that the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, was abducted.

The council explained that the Queen Mother was taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service to maintain peace after she reportedly engaged thugs to disrupt the work of the Paramount Chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.

The police intervention, the Council added, followed an interlocutory injunction issued on June 24, 2025, by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, restraining a self-styled chief and the Queen Mother from interfering with the legitimate duties of the Kwahuhene at the Abene Palace.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the council said, “Contrary to circulating rumours, no abduction has taken place. All persons arrested by the Police are currently in lawful custody and are safe and in good health.”

“It has further come to the attention of the Council that the Queen Mother has engaged thugs in an attempt to forcibly take over the Abene Palace and has issued threats intended to disrupt the legitimate work of the substantive Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II,” the council alleged.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced the release of the Queen Mother and announced an internal investigation into the operation.

A police statement on the same day noted that “the Inspector-General of Police has directed the release of the Queen Mother of Kwahu, following an operation by some officers this morning.”

The statement issued via the social media handles of the Ghana Police Service added that the Police Professional Standards Bureau would investigate the operation and ensure any culpable officer is sanctioned.

“Meanwhile, security has been intensified in and around Kwahu to ensure the security and safety of all persons,” added the police.
