The Vice President of the Republic, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, has commended the government’s steadfast commitment to strengthening Ghana’s education system.

Speaking at the 2025 Ghana Teachers Prize, she emphasized that quality education is a cornerstone of the nation’s economic progress and overall development. She highlighted the government’s focus on foundational learning, STEM, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as key pillars to support both teachers and students.

The Vice President announced that the government has reversed the Teacher Licensure Examination policy, allowing teacher trainees to sit for the exam at their colleges before completing their training. She also revealed plans to provide teacher accommodation through the Teacher Debt initiative, ensuring all new schools are equipped with housing for educators.

In addition, the Minister of Education has organized capacity-building programs on mental health and psychosocial well-being for tertiary teachers nationwide.

The Ghana Education Service (GES), in partnership with the National Teaching Council (NTC), held a grand durbar on Sunday, October 5, 2025, in Ho as part of this year’s Ghana Teachers Prize Day celebrations. The event recognized the dedication of teachers and underscored the vital role of education in Ghana’s development.

The Vice President further highlighted the National Digital Teacher Training Program launched by the Ministry of Education, which has trained over 60,000 teachers in pedagogical skills, digital literacy, and inclusive teaching methods.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with teacher unions and other stakeholders to prioritize education and support educators. She also welcomed the reintroduction of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to encourage broader engagement in shaping young learners and urged teachers to embrace innovation, mentorship, and lifelong learning.
