A 19-year-old man, Adams Hamidu, popularly known as Gyida, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labour after being convicted of robbery by the Wa Circuit Court.
The conviction, delivered on Thursday, June 5, 2025, follows a case presented by prosecutors from the Upper West Regional Police Command. The court found Hamidu guilty of participating in a violent robbery earlier this year.
According to police records, in February 2025, Hamidu and an accomplice, who remains at large, ambushed a victim and stole several items, including a blue Honda motorbike valued at GH¢20,000, a Tecno mobile phone worth GH¢1,300, and GH¢10,800 in cash.
Hamidu’s arrest came months later, on Saturday, June 1, during a targeted police operation in Domowa, located in the Wa West District. The operation was carried out based on actionable intelligence.
In response to the sentencing, the Upper West Regional Police Command praised the outcome as a significant step in the fight against violent crimes across the region.
The Command reiterated its ongoing commitment to public safety and assured residents of continued efforts to bring offenders to justice.
