Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has urged the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to take immediate action against evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Agradaa, for failing to pay taxes on a large cash gift shown in a viral video.
The video, which shows National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi receiving foreign currency from Agradaa, has sparked widespread controversy. Mubarak emphasized the legal requirement for gift taxes to be paid on such transactions, regardless of the circumstances.
“On Mama Pat ‘Agradaa,’ she has to pay gift tax. It’s the law,” Mubarak wrote in a social media post. “The Ghana Revenue Authority must go after Agradaa for the tax component on the gift.”
He further insisted that tax laws should be enforced uniformly, without exceptions for high-profile individuals or religious figures. “There can be no sacred cows,” he added.
In addition to the tax concerns, Ras Mubarak criticized the optics of Agradaa’s cash gift, arguing that such public displays of foreign currency could send a negative message about Ghana’s economic confidence, especially given the improving performance of the local currency.
“You cannot defend or justify a public office holder giving away forex, especially at a time the cedi is doing well,” he emphasised.
