Eight families in the Klefe and Akoefe communities received a life-changing boost with a GHS 24,000 donation aimed at supporting households raising children with disabilities on March 3, 2025.
The donation is part of a newly launched initiative under the Siblings Projects, which seeks to empower families through financial aid and advocacy.
Each family will receive seed funding to help ease the financial and emotional strain that often comes with caring for children with disabilities. The support is intended to cover essential needs such as therapy, medical care, and education, ensuring that children in these families can grow in a nurturing and equipped environment.
Freda Cooper, founder and project manager of the Siblings Projects, said the initiative is rooted in both compassion and strategy.
“We are thrilled to offer this support through the Siblings Projects, which recognizes the diverse and individual needs of families raising children with disabilities,” she said. “By providing seed funding, we are not only easing financial strain but also ensuring that families have the resources they need to create a positive, supportive environment for their children to thrive.”
The project aims to close the gap in support for families navigating the complex demands of disability care—challenges that often include balancing work and caregiving, accessing specialized services, and facing social stigma.
Beyond the direct financial relief, Siblings Projects is working to raise awareness about the importance of inclusive family support systems in Ghana. The organisation hopes that initiatives like this will inspire broader structural change and policy attention toward disability-inclusive development.
With this first round of donations, the project hopes to lay the foundation for long-term impact—giving families not just money, but hope, dignity, and the tools to shape a better future for their children.
