Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that Samuel Adom Botchway will be reassigned from his position at the Births and Deaths Registry following intense opposition from the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).

CLOGSAG had declared a nationwide strike in protest of Botchway’s appointment as Registrar, arguing that politically affiliated individuals should not hold key positions within the civil service and local government.

After a meeting on February 11, 2025, the association's National Executive Council (NEC) expressed concerns over what they described as political interference in public service appointments.

Botchway officially took office on February 12, prompting CLOGSAG to announce a nationwide strike set to begin on February 20. However, in a statement issued on Friday, February 14, Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that the matter had been resolved and that Botchway would be reassigned to a different role.

“In the truest spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are happy to announce that the matter has been resolved and there will be no nationwide strike by CLOGSAG,” he stated.

He also noted that the precedent set by the previous government—appointing a non-civil servant to the position—remains an issue before the courts.

“We have learnt that the precedent that was set by the outgone government of appointing a non civil servant to that position remains a pending matter in the courts,” he added.

Ofosu stressed the government’s commitment to being a listening administration and working together with all stakeholders to reset the nation.

“The Government of President Mahama remains committed to being a listening one as we together reset our nation,” he added.
