Ghana's President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has assured Ghanaians that the country’s democracy remains robust and secure.
This assurance came on Wednesday, December 11, following a cordial meeting with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.
In a post on social media after the meeting, Mahama expressed optimism about Ghana's democratic journey, emphasising the nation’s continued commitment to democratic principles.
“Despite all the anxieties people had ahead of the election and voting day, Ghana has done it again. We can be sure that our democracy is safe, and by working together across bipartisan lines, we can continue to deepen and consolidate it,” the President-elect shared in a post on X.
The meeting, which marked the start of the presidential transition process, was described as cordial by Mahama. He revealed that discussions touched on critical issues, including security and the economy.
“The President briefed me on security and the economy. Later today, we will inaugurate the Joint Transition Team. I also expressed my sincerest appreciation to the President for his phone call on Monday to congratulate me. It was a good mark of statesmanship, giving me a sense of déjà vu,” Mahama stated.
This meeting underscores Ghana's reputation for peaceful transitions of power and the enduring strength of its democratic institutions.
