The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) is calling on education authorities to implement conflict resolution programs and increase mental health support in schools following the death of a student at O'Reilly Senior High School this week.
A final-year student Edward Borketey Sackey died on Monday after being fatally stabbed by another student during an altercation over personal matters.
In a statement dated September 4, GNECC condemned the violence and emphasized the need for "effective conflict resolution programs and mental health support within schools to address underlying issues before they escalate."
"GNECC calls on the Ministry of Education and relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent such occurrences in the future,” it noted.
The Coalition is advocating for regular teacher training on resolving disputes peacefully and providing counseling services to help students deal with social or emotional challenges.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education Stephen Abamfo has confirmed that the alleged attacker has been arrested.
