The Queen Mother of Akrofuom, Nana Abenaa Durowaa I, has donated medical supplies to the Akrofuom Health Center.
The items included BP apparatus, thermometers, glucometers, wheelchairs, screens, and walking aids.
Additional contributions came from the Akrofuom Traditional Council and small-scale miners in the Akrofuom district. This gesture is part of Nana Abenaa Durowaa I's ongoing efforts to support quality healthcare delivery at the center. She has been instrumental in equipping the maternity ward and other units of the health center.
Representing the Queen Mother, the Ahenemahene of Akrofuom, Nana Asare Bediako, praised her vision of ensuring access to quality healthcare for the people of Akrofuom. He emphasized that one of her main objectives is to promote the health of the community, as no meaningful development can occur without good health. He also echoed Nana Abenaa Durowaa I's appeal for support from Akrofuom natives both at home and abroad.
Nana Asare Bediako commended the small-scale miners for their contributions to the health facility, which aligned with the Queen Mother's call for a collaborative approach to healthcare support.
The Akrofuom Health Center has seen significant improvements over the years. According to Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, Chief Executive of the Akrofuom District Assembly, the Assembly has invested resources in enhancing the center’s facilities, including building an isolation center during the COVID-19 outbreak, painting the entire facility, and upgrading the OPD center. Additionally, generous natives of Akrofuom have constructed a laboratory and provided equipment to support the Assembly's efforts.
Dr. Woode applauded the Queen Mother for her donation and her initiative to rally support for healthcare delivery in Akrofuom. He highlighted the presence of two health centers in Akrofuom and Amponyase, as well as four CHPS compounds in Sikaman, Mensonso, Gromesa, and Wamase. He noted that due to population growth, efforts are underway to establish more health facilities to improve access to healthcare. New CHPS compounds have been built at Fenanso Nkwanta, Alata, Adumensaso, and Kubi, with others at various stages of completion.
The District Director of Health Services, John Baffoe Yeboah, said the donated items would support the facility in providing optimal healthcare to patients. He acknowledged the continuous support from the government and the Assembly but stressed the need for additional assistance from benevolent groups and individuals. He identified workforce shortages as a major challenge, exacerbated by a lack of accommodation, which deters health workers from accepting postings to the district.
Mr. Yeboah lauded the Queen Mother for her support and her call for Akrofuom natives to assist the facility in fulfilling its mandate.
