Mussa Dankwah urges ministers to focus on performance amid MoFA–finance minister dispute

The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has called on government ministers to remain focused on delivering results in their respective portfolios rather than allowing political ambitions to distract them from their duties.

His remarks come in the wake of a public disagreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) over the alleged release of more than GH¢1.6 billion for agricultural programmes this year, with both sides offering differing accounts of the figures and allocations.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, June 5, 2026, Mr Dankwah said ministerial success is directly linked to overall government performance, and therefore should remain the primary focus of appointees.

“You know that your success is hinged on the performance of your government. And if that is the case, then I expect every minister to focus on performance,” he said.

He added that internal disagreements between ministries should be resolved within Cabinet rather than being played out publicly.

“If you feel there are maybe challenges to your ministry, I think that’s for me an issue that should be discussed. They can deal with it among themselves as a Cabinet and see how best to resolve those issues,” he noted.

While acknowledging that political ambition among officials is inevitable, Mr Dankwah cautioned against allowing such aspirations to interfere with governance.

“Yes, ambitions are there. And somebody may think that somebody may try to scupper his ambition and they have the right to raise red flags,” he said.

His comments come amid growing speculation over potential contenders for leadership positions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Touching on public perception and internal party dynamics, Mr Dankwah noted that popularity among the general public does not always translate into support from party delegates, who ultimately determine flagbearer outcomes.

He cited survey figures suggesting that while Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson leads among the general public, he trails among NDC delegates, where he said General Mosquito currently leads.

Mr Dankwah further advised that internal political discussions within government should be guided by clear structures to prevent unnecessary tension.

He said the current tensions between the Finance Ministry and MoFA reflect administrative and bureaucratic issues that can be resolved internally.

He also stated that while exploratory political assessments by potential candidates are not harmful, they should not interfere with official responsibilities.

“There’s nothing wrong with people doing exploratory studies or research to find out their chances. That is not campaigning. That’s about fact finding and seeing whether you are viable or not,” he said.
