Renowned Ghanaian music video director Babs Direction has criticised the clergy for their reluctance to hold the government accountable for its actions.
In a tweet posted on July 17, 2024, Babs Direction, whose real name is Awudu Musa, suggested that pastors would begin to voice their dissatisfaction and criticise politicians if congregants are ordered to stop paying or giving offertory.
He indicated that many pastors see their congregants as financially sound since they continue to give generously.
However, he argued that once financial difficulties start impacting the church directly, religious leaders will likely shift their sermons to criticising political leaders for the economic challenges faced by citizens.
"If people stop paying offertory, pastors will start to complain and call out politicians. Currently, they think congregants have money because they continue to give. When financial hardship affects them directly, they will criticise our leaders," he wrote.
Babs Direction's comments come amid growing public dissatisfaction with the current state of governance and increasing demands for change and accountability from leaders.
Various protests have been held across the country to demand solutions to issues such as economic hardship, the rising cost of living, abuse of power, corruption, and poor infrastructure.
