Nanton Also Deserves Good Roads!!

Nanton Also Deserves Good Roads!!

When NDC was leaving power in 2017, there were a number of good roads in my beloved Nanton constituency, while others were being worked on.

Since NDC left power, our roads network has deteriorated and it's in worse states.

When President Akufo-Addo declared 2022 as "Year of Roads", the people of Nanton constituency were happy, because one of agricultural hubs in northern region was finally going to receive its fair of good road network. Sadly, the "Year of Roads" turned out to be a hox for not only us in Nanton, but the entire nation.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the constituents of Nanton, Karaga and Gushegu, has been dealt a raw deal and badly treated by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government. Despite delivering all the three seats to them and also contributing hugely in terms of revenue and agricultural products to the nations development, the Tamale -Nanton -Karaga-Gushegu roads have been neglected by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Npp government. This particular road, which was awarded to a contractor and actual work begun in 2016, has not been given any serious attention by this administration.

Since coming into office in the year 2017, there has not been any facelift of roads in Nanton. This administration can neither boast of a record of any meaningful road projects in the Nanton constituency. Routine and periodic maintenance/graveling activities have all been abandone, thereby leaving all roads in Nanton to deteriorate.

Conceivably, the most heartbreaking of the deplorable nature of roads in Nanton are the Zoggu-Nyeko, Nagdigu-Sakpali-Chahiyili-Kpenduli, Nanton -Kpenduli Kpenduli-Gbiŋnaayili-Guntinli-Dohi-Moya, ZHIENG -Kpachelo, Gbingbandidooyili-Kpachelo, Nantonkurugu-Batanyili . These roads are in such terrible state, yet the Nanton District Assembly and the incompetent MP Hardi Tufeiru looks on. Meanwhile the district's grader is being left at the mercy of the rains and the sun at Saatingli in a building that "allegedly" belongs to the DCE.

The Nanton District Assembly which equally mobilizes a lot of revenue from our poor market women and farmers and having access to many funding from central government and NGOs continues to renege on its obligations to liaise with the relevant government agencies to undertake the necessary road works that would keep the roads motorable. It does appear the good people of Nanton have been abandoned to our fate.

We are therefore calling on DCE and the member of Parliament for the constituency to as matter urgency repair the assembly's grader and immediately put it into use, to at least work on some of the roads and make them motorable.

The MP must work with his colleague MP's for Karaga and Gushegu to put pressure on the government to release funds to the contractor to expedite work on the Tamale -Gushegu road.

Chahayilidoo, deputy communication officer for Nanton constituency.
