NDC Kumawu by-election: NDC will not be part of illegal tactics and violence – Fiifi Kwetey
MON, 22 MAY 2023 LISTEN

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged its commitment to ensuring a peaceful by-election in the Kumawu constituency of the Ashanti region set to take place on Tuesday, May 23.

The party's General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has assured Ghanaians that the NDC will cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

He stressed that his outfit will never engage in any illegal tactics or violence before, during and after the elections.

Mr Fiifi Kwetey made the pledge in a Facebook post on Sunday, May 21, in which he revealed that he and other leaders of the NDC had met with the leadership of the police service team in charge of the by-election in Kumawu to discuss the party's commitment to peace and cooperation.

He also expressed hope that the police would be impartial in enforcing law and order during the elections.

“Chairman and I and other Leaders of the NDC met the Leadership of the Police Service team in charge of the By-election in Kumawu to reassure them of our cooperation in ensuring a peaceful By-election.

"The NDC will not be part of illegal tactics and violence before, during, or after the elections and hope the police will be impartial in the enforcement of law and order during the elections," Mr Kwetey wrote.

He added that the police had assured the NDC team of its mandate to enforce law and order in the elections on Tuesday and nothing much.

“The Police assured the team that they are the only Security Service managing Law and Order in the elections on Tuesday,” he said.

The opposition party’s chief scribe expressed optimism that, “In unity, the entirety of the Party is campaigning thoroughly for a win in Kumawu.”

The Kumawu by-election follows the death of the constituency's incumbent MP, Philip Basoa, in March this year.

The by-election is required by the constitution for the constituency to choose a new MP.
