
The MP for Fomena, Akwasi Afrifa is dead.The Member of Parliament for Fomena in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Akwasi Afrifa is reported dead.
He died on Thursday morning at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
Family sources say the MP fell ill after he returned from a conference on communication in Turkey about a fortnight ago but fell ill on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport and rushed to a family clinic at Sakumono near Tema.
He was referred to the 37 Military Hospital where he reportedly fell into a comma for two weeks until he died in the early hours of Thursday.
Mr. Afrifa was the Chairman of Parliament's Committee on Communications since 2001 and described as an affable technocrat who was approached by all.
The late Afrifa was a native of Kyeaboso-Dompoase in the Ashanti Region and married with two children. He was born on September 22, 1955 and holds BA in History from University of Ghana in 1980 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), 1989 and a teacher by profession.
He was an Assistant Director and a tutor at Opoku Ware Secondary School before entering Parliament.
The late MP was part of a government delegation led by Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama who on Friday, November 10 joined hundreds of Ahmadiyya faithful from all walks of life at Ekumfi Ekrawfo in the Central Region to celebrate the Janaza (burial prayers) for the late Opanin Tahir Kwesi Hammond.
The late Hammond was the father of Mr K.T. Hammond, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa and Deputy Minister of Energy.
