West Gonja: NPP commends first quarter achievements of MP Abu Jinapor

The NPP in the Damongo constituency of the Savannah Region has lauded the achievements of Hon. Abu Jinapor in his first quarter of the year as Member of Parliament for the area.

The said achievements herein were made known in what has become a fierce comparison of achievements between the incumbent and former member of parliament for the area among activists or followers of the two major political parties on most social media handles.

They ( NPP ) described the said achievements as "unprecedented, unmatched and historical" post-Democratic rule in the constituency. They argued that despite the heavy schedules and challenges of the member of parliament's additional role as Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, he has still managed to be impressive pertaining development since assuming office on January 7, 2021.

Among the said achievements enumerated by the NPP included a support to tertiary students with various sums of money to mitigate their fee payment, completion of an electrification project for the Saturday market in Damongo, provision of five (5) farm tractors to lessen the burden on farmers of the constituency during this farming season, youth recruitment into the various security services, drillage of over eighteen (18) mechanized and hand-pump boreholes across the constituency, provision of assorted relief items to victims of a rainstorm at Ngbaripe, Alhassan-Kura, Yagbon Residential Area, Haga-line and Bonyanto all under the West Gonja Municipality and host of others.

In a much anticipated, most talked about and keenly contested Parliamentary election, Hon. Abu Jinapor emerged victorious after beating then incumbent and now former member of parliament, Hon. Adam Mutawkilu Garlus who was the Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee of the seventh (7th) Parliament and one other independent candidate with a vote margin of over two thousand.

The loss of Hon. Adam Mutawkilu sent shivers across the periphery of the NDC for the constituency has always been described as a stronghold of the NDC and a no-go area for the NPP since 2012. He was believed to be a great pillar among the NDC caucus in parliament and considered as a minister in waiting but unfortunately, he and the party lost in the December 7, 2020, presidential and parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, Abu Jinapor after his victory was appointed a substantive Minister by president Nana Addo to man the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. A portfolio he has since occupied following a successful vetting process and swearing-in.
