NPP's Great Ampong calls for military takeover of government

A popular sympathizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and gospel musician, Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong who is popularly called Great Ampong says the practice of democracy is not good for Ghana.

According to him, if Ghana is ruled by a military junta, there will be effective enforcement of law and order in the country as people fear to offend the military.

He cited the continues dumping of refuse on streets in the country as one of the indications that Ghanaians do not obey instructions under democratic government hence the need for a military takeover - which itself is unconstitutional.

Speaking on Accra-based online radio, Kingdom Plus FM, the Kumasi-based musician who has composed lots of campaign songs for the NPP says: "For a country that borrows money to produce songs to tell grown up men and women not urinate indiscriminately and dump rubbish on the streets, it’s imperative that we introduce Military rule so that the attitudes of the people will be shaped. Democracy was not meant for Ghana, we need to go back to Military rule by amending some portions of our constitution."

Mr. Ampong becomes the second person with a call for a military takeover in the country in just a month to restore the country to normalcy.

Exactly a month ago, reported that the Executive Director of Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson, in a facebook post asked Ghanaians to brace themselves as coup d'état was imminent .

Mensah Thompson made the comments hours after the Supreme Court ruled that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Jean Mensa would not mount the witness box to be cross examined by the lead counsel for the petitioner in the 2020 Election Petition, Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.
