Come and sit by the fireside as we remember Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
Come and sit by the fireside. The fireside she created, where Shatta Wale was once a young gong-gong beater and Grace Omaboe Maame Dokono was our storyteller. Where children were taught to hold their heads high and be proud of their culture.
She preserved our heritage by writing it directly onto the hearts of children: championing literacy through her education projects, urging every home to send the girl child to school, and championing the children of villages to take their seat in a classroom.
Come and see the empowered women she built across Ghana. Through the 31st December Women's Movement, she established over 800 daycares, nurseries, and early childhood centres nationwide. She gave market women in Makola, Kejetia, and rural hamlets the freedom to trade, learn, and earn while their children were safe, fed, and taught. Her signature is written across the length and breadth of Ghana.
Konadu

She fought till the end.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings: the Asante Oyoko princess.
Eve, formed from the dust that makes the ribs of the Asante forest.
This princess went from the womb of the security guards at the Asante forest gates protecting its gold, silver, chocolate-making cocoa, yams, and ancient wealth to becoming the female warrior and porcupine security guard of the forests that became the cities of Ghana. From the land of cocoa that crafts the world's chocolate, Ko-na-du fought till the end and proved what it takes a woman to do.
In the Asante tribe, Amazonian women are not just popular tales of women of wonder. They are real. They are human. From a long line of female warriors who were security guards and gates of a people of minerals, of a collective, Nana Konadu rose for Ghana.
Come and see the dancing queen of dancing queens! From the royal grace of the Asante Adowa to the thunderous sway of the Ewe Agbadza, down to modern rhythms where even King Promise was treated to her special dance, she made politics human and easy to digest. She invited every Ghanaian to stand up, speak out, and take ownership of their nation’s destiny.
She was a beauty queen crowned First Lady, an Asante princess: black, bold, brilliant, and eloquent. She wore Ghanaian attire with regal pride, broadcasting to the world that our culture, our fabrics, and our skin were magnificent.
To young, very dark girls watching the screen, she was a shield. Because of her, we never questioned our beauty or our worth. We saw a woman who was deeply dark, deeply loved, immensely powerful, and completely unbothered by colourism. She was our true ambassador: Ghana's Miss World, its most beautiful, chosen not for a crown, but for her savvy, strength, and grace on the global stage.
She raised her own children, and she raised a nation. She was the true helper, the rib of JJ Rawlings. The two tribes of Kente mixed together to weave their story in the vibrant colours of Ghana: its longest rulers. Through the strength of their form, they forged a new Ghana: a republic that still breathes today in the pages of the 1992 Constitution, and in the millions of lives they touched. Nana Konadu Agyemag Rawlings- you will live on. Da yie. Sleep well.
Her Grandchildren said she was a flame and Nana Konadu she was a flame that lit up Ghana. Here is their tribute- I think it truly sums up Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
