Nene Aderibigbe, mother of Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, has criticised social media for undermining independent thinking of young people.
She said many members of Generation Z rely heavily on their phones and other people's opinions, making it difficult for them to recognise their talents and abilities.
“Social media has just turned a lot of things upside down. They don't have their own thinking anymore; it is only people's thinking they use now,” she said.
Aderibigbe urged young people to spend two to three hours away from their phones daily to reflect, meditate and develop independent thought.
“Take your time, drop your phone down for two, three hours, do mental note, put your head down, take a mental note or meditate,” she advised.
