Former Odododiodio Member of Parliament Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has announced his intention to contest for the National Chairman position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the party’s internal elections scheduled for December 19, 2026.
Mr Vanderpuye said he would formally submit his nomination to enter the race, expressing confidence that his long-standing involvement and service to the party had equipped him for the role.
In a message to NDC members, sympathisers and the Ghanaian public, he reflected on his political journey, which he said had taken him from the revolutionary era through the party’s participation in Ghana’s democratic governance.
“I have served you through the revolution days up to today when we have the National Democratic Congress in a democratic dispensation. This is proof that I have built a life of service and a heart that cares,” he said.
He described empowering others, establishing strong institutional structures and accepting responsibility as essential attributes of effective leadership.
According to him, years of commitment, sacrifice and conviction have further prepared him to take on the challenge of leading the party.
Mr Vanderpuye said his decision to seek the chairmanship was informed by a desire to rebuild and reform the NDC, while restoring unity and confidence among its members.
“I consider myself ready to, together with you, step up to this very important call,” he declared.
He pledged to promote an inclusive and united party in which members, regardless of their positions, would feel valued and connected to the organisation.
“We will build the NDC as one united, inclusive, and caring family, restoring trust among members, and a strong sense of belonging at every level,” he said.
Mr Vanderpuye appealed to party members to support his ambition, expressing optimism that collective efforts would help build a stronger and more resilient NDC.
