The NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko Computer, has questioned the credibility of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in raising concerns about recent drug seizures, accusing the party of failing to account for its earlier claims that cocaine manufacturing laboratories existed in Ghana.
Mr Tanko argued that the NPP should first apologise to Ghanaians over the allegations, which the party’s Minority Leader later described as metaphorical.
He made the remarks during an interview with Moro Awudu on Good Morning Ghana, while responding to concerns surrounding the five-day gap between the departure of suspects and their eventual arrest.
The delay has led critics to question whether the operation could legitimately be classified as a controlled delivery.
However, Mr Tanko said the NPP lacked the moral standing to question the government's handling of the matter because it had not satisfactorily addressed its own previous statements.
“Why? Is it not the same group who held a press conference and told the whole world that Ghana has labs manufacturing cocaine and other things, and later on came to tell the whole world that it’s metaphorical? You take them serious?” he asked.
He maintained that the individual who made the allegations had not personally clarified that the comments were intended as a metaphor, despite the Minority Leader's subsequent explanation.
“The person who made those allegations has not come to tell us it’s a metaphor,” he said, insisting that the party owed Ghanaians an apology.
Mr Tanko also questioned why the same individuals had organised another press conference to raise concerns about the drug-related developments.
“The same group regrouped themselves yesterday and also held another press conference. Interestingly enough, it’s the same person who addressed the press conference again, and you want me to come and take them serious?” he asked.
He cautioned the public against accepting the party’s claims without scrutiny, describing the NPP as a “metaphorical group” because of its handling of the earlier cocaine laboratory allegations.
“If it is coming from CPP or other people, we might take them serious, but this metaphorical group, you follow them at the peril of your own,” he said.
