A Nigerian woman has questioned the assumption that women automatically become rich when they marry rich men, arguing that a husband’s money, cars and properties should not be mistaken for personal wealth.
In a video shared on X, she said marriage had taught her that access to a man’s money does not necessarily mean a woman has ownership of his wealth.
“Marriage made me understand that your husband’s money is not your money. Let’s stop this in ourselves,” she said.
She asked women to consider what would happen if a marriage to a wealthy man suddenly ended, pointing out that the expensive lifestyle they enjoyed during the relationship might not remain theirs afterwards.
“If you marry a very wealthy man today, aside from all the money that he’s giving you, all the gifts he’s giving you and everything, if anything happens to your marriage today, you’re going back to your father’s house with just your bag,” she stated.
She further questioned whether women who enjoy access to their husbands’ mansions and cars can confidently consider those assets their own.
