Parts of Kumasi and surrounding communities are expected to experience scheduled power outages from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) undertakes major transmission line upgrade works.
The planned interruptions are part of the ongoing 161kV Anwomaso-Ahodwo (K1-K2) Transmission Line Upgrade Project, which has reached 70 per cent completion, according to a joint announcement by GRIDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The project, being undertaken under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.
GRIDCo and ECG explained that the upgrade is intended to strengthen electricity transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability of power supply in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
The project has reached a critical stage involving the stringing of transmission conductors on the towers.
According to the two companies, the activity requires temporary interruptions in electricity supply to ensure the safety of engineers, project personnel and members of the public.
The planned outages will therefore affect communities along the transmission line route as work progresses.
The scheduled power interruptions will take place from October 30 to November 29, 2026.
However, the outages will not affect weekends. On the specific weekdays when work reaches their respective sections of the transmission line, affected communities will experience interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
