Abeiku Santana Raises Red Flag Over Delays in Accessing GTA CEO, Citing Operational Setbacks

Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, has expressed concern over delays in obtaining management decisions at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), warning that persistent difficulty in accessing the Chief Executive Officer could undermine operational efficiency.

Aggrey, who serves as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Marketing and Special Duties, outlined his concerns in a letter to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts dated October 22, 2026.

According to the letter, the challenge centres on securing consultations with GTA Chief Executive Officer Maame Efua Houadjeto on urgent matters related to his official responsibilities.

Aggrey stated that on several occasions, requests for meetings made through the CEO’s secretary or personal assistant had not resulted in timely access, as he was repeatedly informed that the CEO was unavailable.

He noted that while he acknowledged the demands on the CEO’s schedule, the difficulty in obtaining timely guidance, approvals, and decisions had created obstacles in executing his duties effectively.

The Deputy CEO identified potential delays in operations, stakeholder engagements, and the implementation of key assignments as direct consequences of the situation.

His portfolio covers areas including domestic tourism, special events, and marketing—functions that often require swift coordination with stakeholders and prompt management decisions.

Aggrey emphasised that the matter was not a personal dispute but a communication gap that needed to be addressed to strengthen institutional management.

He appealed to the minister to help establish a more effective arrangement for communication and consultation between his office and that of the CEO, particularly when urgent official matters arise.

He further indicated that any intervention should be undertaken with the knowledge of the GTA Board Chairperson.

The letter also reaffirmed his willingness to work professionally with Houadjeto and the wider management team.

If addressed through clearer communication channels and improved consultation procedures, the concerns raised could enhance coordination within the Authority and support the timely delivery of tourism‑related assignments.

The letter does not detail specific projects affected or quantify the operational impact of the reported delays.
