Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has died following a brief illness, his family has announced.
The family confirmed his death on Friday, October 23, 2026, in a statement shared on the actor’s verified Instagram page.
The statement did not provide details about the illness or circumstances surrounding his death but appealed for prayers, love and understanding as the family mourns the loss.
“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness. We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
Duru was a familiar face in Nigeria’s film industry, having built a career that made him recognisable to audiences across different generations.
Born in Cameroon, he established himself in Nigeria’s entertainment industry and became part of the generation of actors whose performances contributed to the growth and popularity of Nollywood.
His career spanned several years, connecting him with audiences in Nigeria, across Africa and in the diaspora.
His death comes two years after the loss of his youngest son, Ifeanyi, who died in 2024.
The latest loss has therefore added another painful chapter to the family’s history as they mourn the actor.
The family has urged the public to continue offering prayers, love and understanding during this difficult period.
