The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.
The directive was contained in a notice issued by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate on Thursday, October 22, in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017).
The regulation requires students to attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00, in addition to meeting the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments, to qualify for progression to the next level.
The Directorate said the university’s regulations did not provide for academic probation, meaning students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released must withdraw from their programmes.
Affected students have been asked to verify their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and begin the withdrawal process through the Student and Staff Portal (STS).
The university said some programmes have arrangements under which the relevant school or department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students who require clarification about their academic status or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The university’s Careers and Counselling Directorate is also available to offer support and guidance to students affected by the directive.
