The Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has named 16 radio and television stations it says are complying with their music royalty payment obligations out of more than 700 broadcasters across the country.
In a post on X on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the organisation commended the selected stations for meeting their music licensing obligations and setting an example for other broadcasters.
GHAMRO said royalty payments from broadcasters help ensure that musicians, songwriters, publishers and other music rights holders receive compensation whenever their creative works are used.
“When radio and TV stations comply with copyright laws and fulfil their music licensing obligations, our local artists, songwriters, and publishers get compensated for their hard work and creativity,” the organisation stated.
The stations named are Joy FM, Hitz FM, Asempa FM, Adom TV, Adom FM, Luv FM, Nhyira FM, Joy Prime, Sporty FM, Pent Radio, Pent TV, Citi FM, Channel One TV, PCG TV, Hope FM and Lucky TV.
The announcement comes amid longstanding challenges faced by GHAMRO in collecting royalties from music users across the country.
Under Ghana’s copyright law, broadcasters that use music in their programmes are required to obtain the appropriate licences and meet their royalty obligations.
GHAMRO is responsible for licensing music users, collecting royalties and distributing payments to eligible rights holders, including composers, lyricists, arrangers, performers and music publishers.
The organisation’s recognition of the 16 stations is intended to encourage greater compliance and promote respect for copyright laws within Ghana’s broadcasting industry.
