The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has elected Justice Charlyne M. Brumskine of Liberia as its new President and Justice Désire Henri Aihou of Benin as Vice-President.
The two judges were elected on Tuesday, October 13, by the newly constituted college of judges, marking the beginning of a new leadership term at the regional judicial institution.
Their election follows the conclusion of the tenure of the outgoing college of judges.
The new leadership is expected to steer the Court’s judicial and institutional affairs under a four-year, non-renewable mandate ending in 2030.
The other members of the Court are Justice Awa Bah of The Gambia, Justice Henrietta Uzoamaka Didigu of Nigeria, and Justice Yaouza Ouro-Sama of Togo.
The new leadership is expected to oversee the Court’s work in the administration of justice within the ECOWAS Community.
