The Ghanaian entertainment fraternity has been hit with sorrow following the death of musician and renowned backing vocalist Ekua Adadzewa, popularly known as Adez.
The former TV3 Mentor 2 contestant passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Music producer Fred Kyei Mensah (Fredyma) broke the news, prompting an emotional wave of tributes from colleagues, fans and industry players.
Adez was last seen publicly about a week before her passing, when she attended the funeral of fellow vocalist SHE’s mother at the State House.
Rising to fame nearly 19 years ago on Mentor 2, Adez captivated audiences with her vocal strength and stage presence. After the reality show, she carved out a respected career as a backing vocalist, supporting numerous Ghanaian artistes on stage and in studio sessions.
Her voice also became a familiar feature in commercial jingles, lending her talent to brand campaigns, artiste promotions and various media projects.
Adez’s sudden death has left a deep void in the music community, with many mourning a vocalist whose contributions quietly shaped countless performances and productions across Ghana.
