Ghanaian comedian and actor Clemento Suarez has weighed in on the intense rivalry and banter among fanbases of Ghanaian artistes, arguing that the phenomenon is not necessarily as negative as it appears from the outside.
Speaking on United Showbiz, Clemento Suarez explained that some of the rivalries between artistes and their respective fanbases are deliberately created and encouraged by the artistes themselves.
According to him, the artistes understand how such competition generates attention around their music, strengthens fan engagement and ultimately benefits their careers.
He noted that while the constant exchanges between fanbases may sometimes appear unhealthy or excessive to people watching from the outside, the artistes involved may have a completely different perspective.
Clemento stressed that the artistes themselves are often comfortable with the rivalry because it keeps their names in conversations and creates excitement around their music.
He explained that the banter can therefore serve as a promotional tool, particularly when fans passionately defend their favourite artistes and engage supporters of rival camps.
“Artistes called for the rivalry among themselves, and it helps them,” Clemento is reported to have explained during the discussion.
He added that what may look like serious conflict to outsiders does not necessarily mean there is genuine animosity between the artistes involved.
According to the comedian, fans should therefore understand that some of the rivalry they witness online is part of the larger entertainment ecosystem and can contribute to the visibility and projection of the artistes.
