Co‑Founder and Creative Director of House of NAE, Odoom Michael Brett, has expressed deep gratitude to individuals and organisations that rallied behind the fashion brand after the June 29 torrential rainfall in Accra swept through its production facility, destroying machines, fabrics and several in‑progress orders.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Mr. Brett said the flood dealt a major blow to the business, but the overwhelming support from Ghanaians has kept the team hopeful.
He revealed that assistance has come in various forms — from cash donations to equipment and even food. “People sent messages to motivate us. Some said, ‘I can’t help you, but your story touches me, and I want to send you ¢50.’ Others sent ¢50 or more. I can’t even quantify it. People brought food. Artists donated machines. Sandra called me. Anytime someone sends a message, it lifts us because man was down,” he said.
Updating the current state of operations, Mr. Brett noted that although the brand’s social media pages are buzzing with orders, production capacity has been severely affected.
“Before the flood, we were working on 14 machines. We started with one machine in a garage. Now we’re down to four. We’re praying that God will restore us,” he said.
Despite the setbacks, he said clients have remained patient and supportive. “If it used to take two days to turn out an order, they’re willing to wait five or seven days now because they know they’ll still get the same quality and excellence we’ve always given,” he added.
He described the aftermath of the flood as devastating. “The annoying thing is the mud and the stench it leaves behind. It’s not easy, but we are grateful. We’ve had food donations come in. Anytime we pray, we open that list and say, ‘God bless them’.”
The June 29 rains caused widespread flooding across parts of Accra, leaving several businesses counting their losses. Mr. Brett said House of NAE is determined to recover and rebuild, and remains confident that with continued support, the brand will bounce back stronger than before.
