Most Afrobeat musicians are just singing garbage, smoking Indian hemp — Pastor

Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has criticised Afrobeats music, claiming the genre lyrics are senseless and negatively influence young people.

Speaking during the church's Mid-year Worship concert, the cleric urged gospel musicians to produce more youth-focused songs to counter what he described as the harmful impact of Afrobeats.

Announcing a planned Youth Fire Night on September 25, Enenche called on gospel artistes, including Prinx Emmanuel, to make themselves available for the event.

“It is better to have music that is saying something that youth are hearing than the garbage that worldly musicians sing,” he said.

The preacher went further to accuse Afrobeats artistes of promoting negative behaviour through their music.

“Most of those Afrobeats are just saying rubbish. Smoking Indian hemp while they are singing and influencing the youths in negative ways,” he stated.

According to Enenche, gospel music should offer young people positive guidance and help shape their decisions.

“By the time you have this positive replacement for such garbage, then your life cannot follow such a direction,” he said.

He added that he hopes more energetic gospel songs will be created to disciple young people, teach them how to avoid negative influences, make the right decisions and live purposefully.
