Ejisu Assembly Members suspend no-confidence vote against MCE after Mahama's intervention

Assembly Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have suspended plans to initiate a vote of no confidence against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jerryne Asante, following the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama.

The Assembly Members had earlier issued a one-week ultimatum demanding the removal or resignation of the MCE, citing what they described as serious administrative shortcomings under her leadership.

However, the planned action was put on hold after the President established a fact-finding committee, chaired by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, to investigate the concerns raised by the Assembly Members.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 3, the Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area and spokesperson for the group, George Kuntu Blankson, said the Members had decided to await the outcome of the committee's work before taking any further action.

According to him, the President's intervention has created an opportunity for the grievances against the MCE to be thoroughly examined.

The Assembly Members had initially scheduled an emergency meeting to begin the process of passing a vote of no confidence in the MCE. However, the exercise failed to take place after the Electoral Commission was unavailable to supervise the proceedings.

The meeting also encountered another setback when the Assembly auditorium designated for the exercise was found locked. Some Assembly Members alleged that estate officers informed them the keys had been taken away by the MCE's personal aide, preventing access to the facility.

Despite suspending the planned vote, Mr Blankson said the Assembly Members remain committed to pursuing the matter and expect the President to act on their petition once the committee completes its investigations.

“We are waiting on the President to act on our concerns this month. By the end of this month, if the President grants our wish, we will be satisfied. But if we do not hear anything by then, they will hear from us,” he said.
