GH¢2 diesel price cut demonstrates Mahama's care for ordinary Ghanaians — Edudzi Tameklo

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Goodwin Edudzi Tameklo, has praised President John Dramani Mahama's decision to temporarily reduce the regulatory margin on diesel by GH¢2.00 per litre.

He described it as a demonstration of the President's concern for ordinary Ghanaians.

His comments come after the Presidency announced that the one-month intervention, which takes effect on Tuesday, August 4, is intended to cushion consumers, prevent transport fare hikes and ease inflationary pressures following recent increases in fuel prices.

The government's directive also follows concerns over the rising cost of living after the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) threatened to increase transport fares due to persistent fuel price hikes.

"President John Dramani Mahama has directed that the NPA takes steps to absorb GH¢2 on every litre of diesel to cushion the impact of recent fuel price increases," Edudzi Tamakloe wrote in a social media post on Monday, August 3.

"Further demonstration of the President's care for the ordinary citizen," the NPA Chief Executive Officer added.

The Presidency has said the temporary reduction will remain in force for one month unless reviewed.

It added that government will continue to monitor developments in the international energy market before taking any further measures to safeguard consumers and support economic recovery.
