Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has expressed disappointment and concern over the recent wave of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, calling on South Africans to speak out more strongly against the violence.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the award-winning rapper described South Africa as one of his favourite places in the world but said the ongoing attacks against foreign nationals were deeply troubling.
"Disappointed in one of my favorite places in the world, SA 🇿🇦. I know not everyone out there is involved in this, but this is insane and makes no sense! I wish my South African brothers and sisters would speak up against this more strongly because it's getting out of hand."God help our African brothers and sisters out there. 💔"
Sarkodie's comments come amid renewed reports of xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa. The incidents have sparked widespread concern across the continent, with many African leaders, public figures, and citizens calling for unity and an end to violence against fellow Africans.
The rapper acknowledged that not all South Africans are responsible for the attacks but stressed the importance of ordinary citizens speaking out against such acts before the situation worsens.
Sarkodie has performed in South Africa on several occasions and has often spoken about his admiration for the country and its people.
