'Stay off teacher transfers' — Pusiga GES Director urges politicians, chiefs

The District Director of Education for Pusiga in the Upper East Region, Mr. Francis Abaako, has appealed to chiefs and politicians to refrain from interfering in teacher transfer decisions, warning that the practice is undermining teaching and learning in the district.

He made the appeal during the commissioning of educational projects by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Aguuri Haruna Abdul Rahim.

Mr. Abaako said the district continues to face a serious shortage of teachers, a situation worsened by the frequent transfer of teachers to other parts of the country.

According to him, many teachers sponsored by the District Assembly to pursue teacher training apply for transfers shortly after completing their mandatory service in the district.

"After we invest in them, they leave before their bond period is even over. This is affecting teaching and learning in our schools," he said.

He called on traditional authorities and political leaders to support the Education Directorate by discouraging unnecessary transfer requests to help retain qualified teachers in the district.

Mr. Abaako also appealed for urgent support to reroof schools whose buildings were damaged by windstorms that swept through parts of the district in May.

Commissioning the projects, the DCE, Mr. Aguuri Haruna Abdul Rahim, reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring equitable development across the country.

He said the government remained focused on improving the living conditions of people in every community through investments in education, water and other essential infrastructure.

"The NDC government is committed to ensuring that development reaches every community to improve the lives of our people. We have drilled several boreholes, and today we are commissioning ten of them," he said.
