Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, says he does not prioritise international performances because the Ghanaian market already offers him substantial earnings and recognition.
The award-winning musician made the comments during an interview in which he reflected on his career choices and revenue streams.
He argued that strong local demand and industry support have made it unnecessary for him to aggressively pursue foreign shows.
Shatta Wale also pointed to what he described as the structure of his bookings and the level of respect he receives from stakeholders in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
"I've always seen myself as this international star that you know I just need to work on my stuff, you know. I can get paid $1 million in Ghana," he said.
According to him, the local industry understands his brand and supports his commercial value in ways comparable to global standards.
He further claimed that his success in Ghana has shaped his lifestyle and financial stability over the past decade.
"I didn't get rich anywhere I got rich in Ghana," he said.
Shatta Wale noted that respect from organisers, political actors and event promoters in Ghana contributes significantly to his comfort in the local entertainment ecosystem.
He, however, indicated that he is not entirely opposed to international shows, but stressed that financial terms and proper structuring remain key factors in his decisions.
