The National Theatre of Ghana has officially relaunched its Music Education Department, marking a major step toward revitalising arts education and preserving the nation’s musical heritage.

The ceremony took place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the National Theatre in Accra.

The revamped department aims to nurture young talent, promote music literacy, and connect Ghana’s rich artistic traditions with the next generation.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Theatre, Herbert Malm, outlined the vision behind the initiative.

"We envision a space where young people can explore their creativity, where schools can integrate music and performance into learning, and where future composers, instrumentalists, and performing artists can find mentorship and inspiration," he said.

Mr Malm described the relaunch as a “significant milestone” and a “statement of intent” that underscores the National Theatre’s commitment to creative development, cultural preservation, and education through the performing arts.

He further explained that beyond its educational mandate, the revitalised Music Education Department is expected to make a strong economic impact by creating opportunities for musicians, educators, composers, and facilitators. These professionals, he said, will drive new streams of cultural and economic activity, extending creative engagement beyond the traditional workspace.

Mr Malm noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of revitalising the economy through innovation, inclusion, and productivity, values deeply rooted in the arts.

The launch also featured captivating performances by young students from Sovereign Kids Academy, Deborah Academy, and Jesus Cares Academy. Notably, Jady Coleman and Adom thrilled the audience with an inspiring piano recital and solo drum performances.

The National Theatre reaffirmed its commitment to positioning the arts as both a cultural cornerstone and an engine for economic transformation in Ghana.
